The government chief whip and NRM vice chairperson for Northern Uganda, Hamson Obua has described former Kenya prime minister, Raila Odinga as a Pan Africanist and political encyclopedia.

In his condolence message, Obua said Odinga’s legacy  as one whose legacy transcends the Kenyan borders.

“There is a lot for us, especially Ugandan opposition to learn from the late Raila Odinga as a pan-Africanist, as a statesman in Kenya and  as an encyclopaedia of politics in Kenya.  We must know that our countries are bigger than all of us and can accommodate all of us,”Obua said.

He added, “The late Raila Odinga demonstrated to the people of Kenya, that when I contest against you, we are not enemies, we all have a common agenda.  I can still join you and we work together for the common good of the people.”

The NRM vice chairperson for Northern Uganda said Odinga leaves behind a legacy for opposition politicians in East Africa and Africa at large to learn from.

Odinga passed away at the age of 80 on the morning of October 15, 2025, from cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at an Ayurvedic hospital in Kochi, Kerala, India.
