The President of the Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP) Robert Kasibante has called for a generational shift in Uganda’s leadership while outlining his campaign priorities.
Speaking during NBS Eagle on Sunday, Kasibante, a first-time presidential candidate, emphasized that his nomination, took a rocky path, and his appearance on the ballot paper is as a result of personal effort and party support.
“By the grace of God, I was nominated. It wasn’t easy, but my party gave me great support,” he said.
While acknowledging the accomplishments of long-serving President Museveni, Kasibante argued that after 40 uninterrupted years, it’s high time Uganda ushers in new leadership.
“Yes, President Museveni has done some things; you can't say he hasn't done anything. But it's time for him to give way to others,” he stated.
Kasibante also dismissed rumors that he had been “brought into the race” by others.
“People saying I was brought into the race should bring proof. I looked for my signatures and got nominated. Those people speaking ill of me just want to sabotage me,” he said.
On policy, Kasibante highlighted youth empowerment as a central focus of his manifesto.
“In our manifesto, I am going to prioritize the youth. I want us to have a skilling centre in every district,” he said, signaling the party’s commitment to skills development and employment opportunities for Uganda’s young population.
Formerly a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Kasibante previously contested the Busujju County parliamentary seat before officially joining the National Peasants Party (NPP), a party grounded on advocating for rural development and farmers’ rights. He will campaign under the party’s official symbol—the Pen.
