Jubilant supporters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) thronged Awindiri Market in Adjumani Town Council on Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the nomination of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2026 general election.

Adjumani District NRM chairperson, Akuku Charles Anzo, said the march was not only a celebration of the president’s nomination but also a platform to mobilize support for other NRM flag bearers in the forthcoming elections.

“We are using public address systems to make the procession colourful,” Akuku explained.

“As NRM members, we shall ensure President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and all our candidates in Adjumani emerge victorious in the 2026 general elections.”

He emphasized that the NRM government has delivered peace, development, and vital programs that should continue for the good of the country.

At Awindiri Market, several vendors abandoned their businesses to join the celebrations. Mary Asienzo, a trader, said she closed her stall to show solidarity with the party leader. “I have come to join other NRM members to celebrate the nomination of our presidential candidate,” she said.

Over the years, the NRM has consistently secured overwhelming support in Adjumani District, which hosts a significant refugee population, despite ongoing challenges in service delivery.

The district is represented in Parliament by three legislators: MPs for Adjumani West and East counties, and the District Woman Member of Parliament.
