St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) has officially launched its Duc in Altum Endowment Fund, with an initial contribution of shs 85 million from Paxtel Mobile Foundation Ltd.

The cheque, issued through Centenary Bank, was presented to Dr. Geoffrey Onegi-Obel, Director of SMACK Duc in Altum Endowment Ltd, during a ceremony presided over by His Grace Archbishop Paul Ssemwogerere of Kampala Diocese, the titular head of SMACK.

According to the Endowment trustees, the shs85 million grant will serve as seed capital for fundraising activities to support infrastructural development at SMACK. The initiative marks a significant milestone in efforts to address the school’s growing infrastructural demands.

Founded in March 2024 by alumni from the 1970s, the SMACK Duc in Altum Endowment Ltd brings together representatives from the SMACK Board of Governors, the Brothers of Christian Instruction, and alumni leaders.

Its mandate is to raise and manage funds for major projects under the College’s approved 15-year infrastructure masterplan, which aims to expand facilities to accommodate up to 3,000 students.

Currently, SMACK serves 2,400 students—nearly triple the original infrastructure capacity of 900—straining the school’s resources. The expansion plan includes the construction of a new dormitory block, a multi-purpose sports arena, and modern computer and AI teaching facilities.

Dr. Onegi-Obel welcomed the contribution from Paxtel, describing it as “a crucial first step in realizing SMACK’s vision of sustainable academic excellence.”
