Ecobank, SurePay partner to revolutionalise school fees payment

In a groundbreaking move to enhance the education sector, EcoBank Uganda has partnered with SurePay,  a digital payment platform to provide seamless digital payment solutions that will ease transactions between parents and schools.

The collaboration introduces a free, streamlined, secure, and user friendly platform for schools, students, and parents across the region to collect and manage school fees easily.

The initiative, which aims to foster financial stability in the education ecosystem, was officially launched at Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala by Eco Bank and SurePay officials.

Elizabeth Mwerinde Kassedde, Head of Commercial Banking at EcoBank Uganda, who spoke on behalf of Grace Muriisa, the Managing Director of EcoBank, emphasized the transformative impact of the partnership, highlighting its role in supporting convenient digital payment solutions.

"Today, EcoBank and SurePay come together to drive customer-centricity and excellence in service delivery. This milestone supports easier, more convenient digital payment solutions while ensuring a stable ecosystem for the education sector.” she said.

The initiative introduces automated reconciliation tools, real-time student record updates, and expanded access to financing for schools. EcoBank has committed up to shs1 billion for school asset expansion and working capital, alongside tailored financial solutions for women-owned schools.

She  highlighted the broader societal benefits of supporting the education sector, saying, “In educated societies, people are more likely to support the vulnerable, make informed decisions, and contribute to economic stability.”

She further noted that through this partnership, EcoBank aims to onboard 300 new schools to its banking network this year while leveraging SurePay’s experience in managing school ecosystems.

"The partnership we have with SurePay will also facilitate on boarding of 300 new schools to the bank, according to our plans this year, and we expect to mobilize a huge amount of deposits, which will also enable us to expand our reach as a bank," she added.

As part of its commitment to community development, EcoBank sees this collaboration as a step towards economic empowerment and financial inclusion.

“By partnering and pooling our resources, we can achieve a greater impact and bring meaningful, lasting change,” Murisa concluded.

SurePay, which already serves over 4,000 schools, will bring expertise in school information management, having collaborated with multiple banks and telecom companies in Uganda.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Moses Okiror the CEO SurePay thank Eco Bank for partnering with them commuting to digitise all schools in Uganda with Eco Bank.

". We are very committed to drive this agenda, to make it to make sure that we digitalize all the schools in Uganda through eco bank," Moses Okiror said.

Mr. Okiror noted that SurePay streamlines school payments by onboarding schools after they open an account in Eco Bank. "It offers multiple payment options, including the Ecobank Mobile App, Quick Teller-Interswitch, over-the-counter services, and ABC Agents nationwide, ensuring convenience for all users," he added.

Okiror stated that SurePay will make school fee payments seamless and hassle-free, allowing parents to pay instantly through multiple channels.

He emphasized that real-time processing ensures funds are transferred directly to the school’s Ecobank account without delay.

He highlighted the system’s unique student codes, which simplify payment tracking, and noted that schools will have immediate access to funds for smooth operations.

Additionally, Okiror explained that SurePay enables schools to automatically generate learners’ report cards for Nursery, Primary, O-Level, and A-Level, supporting advanced academic management.

The launch event was attended by teachers, headteachers, and staff from various schools, who explored how SurePay will enhance efficiency and strengthen their relationship with parents.
