Nakaseke South MP, Paulson Luttamaguzi Ssemakula has come to the defense of the National Unity Platform (NUP) members, often referred to as 'foot soldiers,' following a controversial parade they held recently.

Last week, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi appeared in a viral video inspecting a group of foot soldiers fully dressed in red attire and marching, which raised concerns about their resemblance to a military parade.

Their display has since drawn criticism, particularly from the military.

However, appearing on Sanyuka Television, Luttamaguzi stood by the parade, asserting that it was merely a gathering of youth engaged in activism.

"These are Ugandan youth actively participating in activism. I am very happy and proud of them," Luttamaguzi stated.

He further remarked, "It's up to you to interpret it as you wish. You could even accuse scouts of being rebels. Does any party not gather its members? Or is the issue simply that they are wearing the same colour?"

This week, the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) issued a stern warning to the NUP regarding the behavior of its supporters, which they claim mimics military conduct. Army spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye commented, "If a duck starts flying like a bird, what do you call that?"

Kulayigye also cautioned that those engaging in such behavior could face arrest and be brought before a disciplinary committee for breaching military protocols.
