FACT CHECK: Minister Kabbyanga Did Not Call Gen. Muhoozi Bipolar; Claims by Kampala Journal Are False

By | January 7, 2025

On January 6, 2025, Kampala Journal (@KampalaJournal) posted on X (formerly Twitter), quoting Hon. Kabbyanga Godfrey Baluku, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, saying: "Don't be alarmed by Muhoozi's tweets because they are not representing the position of Govt. Muhoozi is known to be having bipolar disorder, so for us, we are used to him, and we don't take him seriously."

VERIFICATION:

The claim is false. Hon. Kabbyanga has publicly refuted the attribution of this statement and clarified his position through an official post on X (formerly Twitter).

FACTS:

Hon. Kabbyanga Godfrey Baluku responded to the post on January 7, 2025, through his official X account, describing it as "fake news." His response stated: "My attention has been drawn towards this Malicious account that trades in Fake news. My comments about the recent tweets by my PLU Chairman and CDF Gen. Muhoozi were well captured in an exclusive interview on tv. This post must be treated with the contempt it deserves!"

This directly refutes the alleged statement attributed to him by The Kampala Journal.

A review of credible media outlets and official government communication shows no record of Hon. Kabbyanga making such a statement. The post by Kampala Journal appears to have fabricated the quote without basis.

Hon. Kabbyanga mentions that his remarks were part of an interview, where he likely addressed the issue with more nuance. The misattributed quote is inflammatory and unverified.

The claim that Hon. Kabbyanga Godfrey Baluku made disparaging remarks about Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, including referring to him as having bipolar disorder, is false. The Minister has publicly refuted the statement, and there is no evidence to support The Kampala Journal's post.
