Legislators representing workers in the August House together with human rights activists have condemned the increasing manner in which journalists are brutalised by security personnel in the course of duty.
Addressing the media at Parliament, the Workers MPs threatened to mobilise journalists to black out government events.
They also called for compensation pf journalists whose equipment was destroyed while they were covering riots.
On Monday this week, military personnel roughed up James Akena, a photojournalists with Reuters news agency as he was covering a demonstration in town.
Akena pleas that he was a journalist fell on deaf ears.
The army has since said it will bring the errant officers to book and has apologised to the media fraternity.
But the Workers MPs led by Margaret Rwabashaija and Agnes Kunihira said they are not moved by the army apology.
