Roke Telkom has extended a helping hand to Bless a Child Foundation through donation of essential foodstuffs and basic necessities to support children battling cancer.

This initiative is part of Roke Telkom’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the community

and supporting causes that make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children and their

families.

Over the past nine years, Roke Telkom has worked closely with Bless a Child foundation, not

only providing food but also physical and emotional therapy to children battling cancer.

The items provided which include rice, maize flour, beans, sugar, and cooking oil, will provide nutritional support for the children at the Bless a Child Foundation care homes.

These homes offer a safe and supportive environment for children undergoing cancer treatment, along with their caregivers.

Speaking at the donation handover, Roke Telkom’s Head of Partnerships and Community

impact, Timothy Mugenyi, emphasized the company’s dedication to community welfare.

“At Roke Telkom, we are committed to supporting communities in need, especially when it

comes to the well-being of children. Today we build a kitchen for the children at this home so

that they are able to get a clean and safe place to prepare their meals. Our donation to Bless a

Child Foundation is aimed at providing relief and ensuring that these children have the

nourishment they need during their recovery journey. We are proud to be able to make a

difference in their lives," Mugenyi said.

Bless a Child Foundation has long been a beacon of hope for children suffering from cancer in

Uganda, offering not just medical care but also housing, nutrition, and psychosocial support.

The donation from Roke Telkom comes at a time when many families are facing financial

difficulties, helping to alleviate some of the burdens associated with caring for children with

long-term health conditions.

Peter Genza , Programs Manager at Bless a Child Foundation, expressed his gratitude for the

generous donation.

"A cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. Early diagnosis, early treatment, saves lives. We are grateful to Roke Telkom for their kindness and generosity. These food supplies will go a long way in supporting the children in our care and their families during what is a challenging period in their lives. We appreciate this gesture and hope it inspires others to contribute to our cause.”

According to the Uganda Cancer Institute, there are over 4000 cancer cases recorded annually.

Of these, 2093 are children aged between 0 and 14 years.

Continuous efforts need to be put in place to increase cancer awareness and improve access to early screening and treatment services across Uganda.
