Kisiita Town Council leaders in Kakumiro District are advocating for the creation of Kisiita district, citing the need for better service delivery and improved governance.
During a recent council meeting, leaders argued that Kakumiro is too large, making it difficult for residents to access services, especially as district headquarters are located far from many communities, near Mubende.
The push comes after the government’s 2016 decision to split the greater Kibaale district into Kagadi, Kakumiro, and Kibaale, aiming to improve service delivery.
However, Kisiita councilors believe that further decentralization is needed.
Kisiita Town Council Mayor, Aston Tumushabe, emphasized that many residents struggle to reach Kakumiro's headquarters due to distance and transport costs.
He believes a new district would bring services closer to areas like Nalweyo, Buluuko, and Katikara.
Councilors, including Joseph Turyamuhika, supported the move, highlighting potential job creation through the establishment of a new district. Kisiita town clerk, Tadeo Buletwenda, advised that technical experts be consulted to ensure the proposal meets all necessary criteria.
In addition, Tumushabe shared updates on road improvements and an upcoming streetlight installation, aimed at enhancing security and business activity in Kisiita Town Council.
