With only a few days left until the end of the financial year taxpayers have been urged to file their returns and pay their taxes ahead of the 30th of June 2021 deadline.
The remarks were contained in a uniform message made by the chairperson Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), the executive director Uganda Manufacturer’s Association (UMA) and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).
The joint business advisory message seeks to guide businesses to streamline their tax matters as a safeguard against tax fines that result from tax non-compliance.
Daniel Birungi, the UMA executive director, called upon all the manufacturers to comply with the requirement to file returns before the 30th June deadline adding that ax compliance is not only good for the economy and vital for keeping the wheels of government turning, but also ensures that companies do not suffer undue interruptions to their operations occasioned by sanctions for non-compliance.
Birungi noted that UMA teams are on hand to supplement the work of the URA in supporting struggling members to get their tax affairs in order and to ensure that all manufacturers submit their returns in time.
In his guidance to the business community, the chairperson KACITA, Everest Kayondo said, “If you are a registered taxpayer and obliged to file your returns, file your returns in time and pay"
Kayondo said this will help taxpayers to avoid any penalties which could occur just in case you do not file at all.
"Even if you do not make money, you have to file your returns and let URA know that you didn’t make any profits perhaps because of Covid-19. Only make sure that your filing is on record and that it is timely so that you do not incur unnecessary expenditures," he said.
The URA commissioner general, John Rujoki Musinguzi, said their officers in all their stations across the country are ready to support the public in meeting this crucial deadline.
In observance of the covid-19 standard operating procedures, he encouraged taxpayers to utilise the online services to file returns and make payment.
