The ruling National Resistance Movement has claimed that the opposition subjected their supporters to abuses on social media and other inhumane acts during the recently concluded general election.

The claims were made by the director of Legal Affairs at the NRM secretariat, Oscar Kihika, before Parliament's Human Rights committee which is investigating the alleged violation of human rights during the general polls.

Kihika said the violence meted upon their supporters forced some to shift from their homes in fear for their lives.

With NRM's appearance, the committee finalised its interface with all stakeholders. It is now scheduled to write a report.

Kihika told the legislators that NRM supporters were intimidated as police and other security agencies just looked on.

He claimed that besides abuses on social media, some party supporters were beaten and others undressed during the chaotic campaigns.

But some of the legislators were not convinced by Kihika's submission which they said was laced with a lot of lies.

Kihika was tasked to explain why the ruling party used security operatives to intimidate the opposition supporters during and after the elections. He mumbled some incoherent statements.

Otuke Woman MP, Sylvia Akello disclosed to the committee that the president had intimidated her during his campaign trail in Lango sub-region.
