Surgeons at work in Kisubi Heart Centre

Our Lady of Consolata Kisubi Hospital in conjunction with MGM Health Care in India, have organized a Cardiac Camp at Kisubi Hospital.  This camp is scheduled for 5 days starting 31st October 2022 until 4th November 2022 in which patients with heart related symptoms will check their hearts and also access specialist consultation with the cardiologists.

Kisubi Hopsital is among the few hospitals in East Africa with a fully-fledged heart centre. With the presence of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath-lab), Kisubi hospital has got a highly modernized coronary care unit with the latest equipment for patient care. Apparently, the unit is well equipped with six beds each with a cardiac monitor for patients with capacity of expanding to 10beds and 14 experienced and well-trained nurses who work with a full time Physician and a 24hour on call Cardiologist to give excellent care to patients.

It should be remembered that during the COVID19 lockdown, Kisubi Hospital received a 69-year-old lady that complained of severe chest pain. This lady had been dropped at the Hospital by a bodaboda and a relative. Due to her very fast-failing condition, she was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and doctors were able to resuscitate her. The machines at Kisubi Hospital were able to diagnose a heart attack that the doctors say needed immediate intervention. The Hospital’s intervention cardiologists were able to save the old lady by carrying out what they termed “Angioplasty” ( a medical procedure that opens up a blocked artery around the heart to improve blood flow) and the lady was discharged on her third day after a very delicate but successful procedure.

Kisubi Hospital has had several success stories over the years with a number of Pacemaker insertions, Coronary Angiogram (CAG), Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) and other interventions

According Mr. Belguin Prosper Lumu the Business Development Officer, at the hospital, several cases of heart related problems are on the increase in the communities and it is important that every person gets a chance to know the condition of their heart. This is why the hospital has organized a “Heart Camp” in which people will be able to check their hearts by the Professionals.

The checkups will include ECG, Echo, Blood pressure, Random blood sugar and also consultation with the Cardiologists. All this will be at a subsidized fee of UGS 150,000 per person.

Hospital Experts say that symptoms that could indicate a heart related problem include; chest pain, fatigue, shortness of breath on exercise, body swelling especially involving legs, palpitations, dizziness and collapse. Such symptoms are common in people nowadays and this has led to increase of sudden deaths among those that seem healthy on the outside. This is one of the reasons the Hospital encourages the members of the public to utilize this opportunity to check their cardiac health.

Below are the contact details for any member of the public that wishes to reach out to the hospital about this opportunity; 0700541667 / 0776237512 or WhatsApp 0702040213
