Congolese music legend Koffi Olomidé has arrived in Uganda ahead of a historic celebration marking 50 years of Afrigo Band.
Olomidé arrived at Entebbe international airport, Wednesday morning and was welcomed by Afrigo's Mr Moses matovu, Talent Africa's and hundreds of music fans.
The golden jubilee concert, titled “Legends of Sound: Afrigo at 50”, will take place this Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Millennium Grounds in Lugogo.
The event, organised by Talent Africa Group as part of its Legends of Sound concert series, promises an evening of nostalgia, rhythm and cultural pride.
Afrigo Band, founded in 1975 by the iconic Moses Matovu, has long been regarded as the heartbeat of Uganda’s live music scene, producing timeless hits and thrilling audiences for generations.
To make Saturday night even more memorable, Koffi Olomidé will share the stage with the band.
Often called the “Grand Mopao” of African music, Olomidé is celebrated for his mastery of Soukous- a high-energy Congolese dance music style known for its infectious guitar riffs, rich harmonies, and irresistible rhythms.
His smooth baritone voice, flamboyant stage presence, and fusion of traditional African sounds with modern influences have made him a household name across the continent and beyond.
Olomidé’s appearance adds an international sparkle to the celebrations, bringing together two of Africa’s most enduring musical forces.
A nationwide broadcast
The Saturday concert will be broadcast live on Sanyuka TV for local audiences, while NBS TV and AfroMobile will provide coverage across television, digital platforms, and live streaming, allowing fans worldwide to join the festivities.
