Police in Kanungu District are hunting for a man only identified as Mugisha after he allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old boy, Darius Tukamushaba, to death on Wednesday night, May 7, 2026.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. at Omukashansha Trading Centre, Kakoni Cell, Nyarugunda Parish, Kambuga Sub-county in Kanungu District.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, said Tukamushaba, a resident of Kakoni Cell, was stabbed in the stomach after he called the suspect out of Kasingire’s bar, where Mugisha had been drinking with friends.

“It is alleged that on May 7, 2026, at around 23:30 hours, while the suspect was in the bar drinking with friends, the deceased called him outside. When he went out, Mugisha allegedly pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Darius in the stomach, after which he fell down,” Maate said.

Eyewitness Yeremia Tayebwa, who had followed them outside, ran back to the bar and alerted Pakarasio Niwasiima. The two informed the area chairperson, who later notified the deceased’s relatives.

Tukamushaba was rushed to Kambuga Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Maate said police visited and documented the scene, recorded statements from witnesses, and a postmortem was conducted at Kambuga Hospital.

“Efforts to arrest the suspect are ongoing. Anyone with information that can lead to his arrest is urged to come forward so that he is apprehended and charged accordingly. Investigations are underway to establish the motive of the murder,” Maate said.
