Police in Mukono District have arrested a woman and some of her children over the alleged murder of their husband and father, whose body was reportedly wrapped in a sack and dumped in a pit at a trading centre.
The deceased has been identified as Charles Kiseka Tagejja, 49, a resident of Kitebe Namaliga village in Seeta–Nazigo Parish, Nakisunga Sub-county.
According to residents, Kiseka had been missing for several days before his body was discovered in a pit near a trading centre in the area.
“It is alleged that the wife, Alice Mbolanyi, together with some of the children, attacked the deceased during a domestic dispute and later wrapped the body in a sack before transporting it on a motorcycle and dumping it in a pit,” one resident told our reporter.
The couple, who married in 2001, had five children together and had reportedly been experiencing long-standing domestic disagreements.
Residents said the body was discovered by a herdsman who had taken his cattle to graze nearby.
“I noticed my cows becoming restless near the pit. When I went closer to check, I saw a sack inside and later realised there was a human body in it,” the herdsman said.
He immediately raised an alarm, attracting residents who later informed police from Uganda Police Force at Seeta–Nazigo Police Station.
Relatives of the deceased, including his brother Edward Kayondo Sserwadda, expressed shock over the incident during the burial.
“We are deeply hurt by what has happened. We want justice for our brother and we hope investigations will reveal the truth,” Sserwadda said.
Local leaders, including councillor Betty Mwesigwa, condemned the incident and called for peaceful conflict resolution within families.
“It is unfortunate that a family disagreement has ended in such a tragic loss of life. People should seek help and mediation instead of resorting to violence,” Mwesigwa said.
The Officer in Charge of Seeta–Nazigo Police Station, Joseph Eyoku, also condemned the incident and thanked residents for alerting authorities.
“We appreciate the community members who informed the police. Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances under which the deceased lost his life,” Eyoku said.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Police Force spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Area, Racheal Kawala, confirmed that investigations into the suspected murder are underway.
“We have begun investigations into the suspected murder and the suspects are currently in custody as inquiries continue,” Kawala said.
