Police in Nansana have launched an investigation into a Sudanese family accused of severely beating their domestic worker, resulting in her death. The incident has sparked tension and shock among residents of Nabweru South Cell 1, who witnessed the chaos as police cordoned off the home.
According to residents, the domestic worker was rushed to a nearby clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival. “They brought the girl with a very deep wound on her head, but she had already passed on,” a medical officer at the clinic said.
Police officers who stormed the residence blocked journalists from taking photographs. Inside the home, officers found the housewife, who was immediately detained to assist with investigations. It is alleged that the victim’s body had been removed from the scene before police arrived.
Residents reported seeing suspicious items being hurriedly moved out of the house. “We saw them taking things out of the home wrapped in sacks, and we started wondering what was going on,” one resident said. “Later, we discovered that the worker had been beaten and had died.”
Local security officer for Nabweru South Cell 1, Denis Ssekatawa, described the incident as disturbing and called for public cooperation as inquiries continue.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the ongoing investigation.
“We have begun inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death of the worker,” she said. “Several people, including the medical officer, have been taken in to assist with the investigation.”
Police stated that the suspects will remain in custody as detectives piece together what happened, including verifying reports that the victim suffered a severe head injury prior to her death.
