Serial killer Richard Arinaitwe has withdrawn his appeal before the Supreme Court where he was seeking commuting of his eight-year prison sentence after he was convicted on murder charges.

Arinaitwe was convicted for the murder of British civilian Cecelia Goetz in 1998 in a hotel.

He was originally sentenced to death in 2003.

His life imprisonment sentence was reduced to 25 years following his appeal in 2019.

The Supreme Court today began hearing appeals in 30 cases filed and lawyers for serial killer Arinaitwe were the first to inform the court that their client had changed his mind, seeking to withdraw his appeal which sought for a commutation of his sentence.

Arinaitwe's lawyer did not explain why has has changed his mind but sources confirmed that he fears the court will increase his sentence because of the severity of the 1998 murder of British volunteer.

Arinaitwe is remembered for attempting to strangle then magistrate Elizabeth Jane Alvidza when she was recording his extrajudicial statement on his murder charges.

He also assaulted a journalist in court for taking his pictures.
