The National Entrepreneurs and Traders Association says the education support programme will target talented learners, orphans and students from financially constrained families, covering nursery to tertiary levels while also linking beneficiaries to mentorship, internships and employment pathways.

The National Entrepreneurs and Traders Association (NETA) has announced plans to award scholarships and bursaries to needy students across Uganda, targeting learners from nursery to tertiary institutions.

According to the association, the initiative will prioritise talented students, orphans and those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, with the aim of easing access to education and supporting learners to complete all levels of schooling.

NETA said the programme will go beyond tuition support to include psycho-social assistance, provision of scholastic materials and facilitation of pathways into internships, industrial training and eventual employment.

The association said the broader objective is to uplift less privileged but capable students, while also contributing to community development through charity work and support for improved health and education outcomes.

“As NETA, we believe our first core responsibility to the business community and our stakeholders is to identify their needs and come up with viable solutions,” said Thadeus Nagenda, the president of NETA Uganda.

“We shall also provide scholastic materials to eligible students who meet our criteria,” he added.

NETA is an umbrella body formed to empower entrepreneurs and traders through a range of services, including access to low-interest and emergency loans, legal aid, tax education and consultancy, marketing and promotion, networking and international relations, research and skills development, and advocacy on behalf of traders to relevant authorities.

The association said the scholarship and bursary programme aligns with its broader mission of promoting social welfare alongside economic empowerment.
