Kayunga Residents Decry Rising Insecurity
Residents of Kayunga Town Council are on edge due to a surge in violent attacks targeting Boda-Boda riders. Locals claim a group of unidentified assailants have been seriously injuring or killing riders.
A security meeting held in Bukoloto-Kamunye zone brought together residents, security officials, and district leaders. Over ten injured Boda-Boda riders were presented as evidence of the escalating violence.
One victim, Ibra Mukiibi, recounted a brutal attack that left him with a broken jaw and severe head injuries. Residents believe the number of targeted victims is much higher, with some even killed.

Security officials, led by Community Liaison Officer Abdulmajid Tulibagenyi, appealed for cooperation from the public in gathering evidence to identify the attackers. This plea came after residents accused the local LCI Chairperson, Emmanuel Kayemba, of fostering insecurity in the area.
Kayemba, recently arrested and released on bond, is suspected of leading a gang that attacked Mukiibi and stole his motorcycle. Locals allege he was left for dead after the assault.
Both residents and former Kayunga Woman MP, Aidah Nantaba, criticized the police for failing to curb the violence. They expressed frustration with reports of suspects escaping or being released quickly after arrest.
Nantaba, who participated in the meeting, claimed she personally apprehended six suspected attackers, including Kayemba, but within days, Kayemba was seen again harassing residents.
Losing patience, Nantaba threatened to seek intervention from President Museveni if the security situation doesn't improve.
In response, the Regional CID Officer for Ssezibwa promised to open a General Inquiry File to investigate the residents' claims and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. He emphasized the need for collaboration and evidence to move forward with the investigation.
With residents demanding more forceful action from the police and Nantaba threatening presidential intervention, the pressure is on to address the rising insecurity in Kayunga Town Council.
