The National Unity Platform is set to convene a parliamentary caucus meeting to discuss strategy, cooperation with opposition and independent MPs, and how the party will execute its mandate in the 12th Parliament.

Close sources within the National Unity Platform (NUP) have revealed plans to convene a parliamentary caucus meeting to discuss how the party will execute its mandate in the 12th Parliament.

The party, which secured 49 parliamentary seats, commands the largest share of the opposition in Parliament.

However, NUP is expected to face an uphill task in influencing decision-making on the floor of Parliament, where the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) maintains overwhelming dominance after securing 369 seats and signing working Memoranda of Understanding with several independent Members of Parliament.

Sources say the planned caucus meeting will focus on strategies for the party to operate effectively in Parliament, including how to collaborate with other opposition MPs and independent legislators.

Kira Municipality MP-elect George Musisi confirmed the plans, saying the meeting will help shape the party’s parliamentary approach.

“We shall have a caucus very soon to discuss how we’ll be delivering as a party but also on how to work with other MPs like the independents,” Musisi said.

However, details of the caucus meeting, including the exact date and venue, remain unclear, although sources indicate it is expected to take place within the coming days.

Political analysts say the meeting will be crucial in determining how effectively the opposition coordinates in the 12th Parliament, particularly in areas such as legislation, oversight and accountability.
