Kanungu Police are holding a man accused of stabbing his son to death for pestering him for money to spend on Christmas.

The suspect is 54-year-old Gaston Bataringaya, a resident of Rwencuuncu cell in Mishenyi parish in Rugyeyo Sub County in Kanungu district.

He allegedly stabbed his 25-year-old son, Doroviko Muhoozi to death.

Julius Tugumenawe, the Kanungu District Police Commander, said it all started at around 9:00pm on Friday night when Muhoozi who had just returned from Kampala started pestering his father for money to buy clothes and alcohol for the Christmas festivities.

Muhoozi reportedly became when his father, said he didn't have money leading to a fight. According to Tugumenawe, Muhoozi picked a knife and stabbed his father in the back.

Bataringaya fought back and used the same knife to stab Muhoozi several times in the chest and stomach.

Ely Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, said the duo was rushed to Kisiizi hospital in Rukungiri district where Muhoozi breathed his last.

Maate said Kanungu Police Station is investigating the case vice Police file number CRB 1360/2017.
