Kirinya Jinja S.S upset of 16 time league winners Sports Club Villa left many a Villa faithful including their coach Douglas Bamweyana disappointed.
Bashir Mutanda’s second half goal failed to ignite a comeback for the record champions and could only serve as a consolation as the Jinja sss students held their own to maintain their lead till the final whistle was blown winning the match 2-1.
Kirinya had done the job in the first half with two goals from David Bagoole and their danger man and golden boot candidate Joel Madondo.
It was clearly a game of two halves with Kirinya asserting themselves quickly in the first 45 minutes of the well attended game played under floodlights.
The two goal cushion the students had clearly paid off in the second half as they spent the last 45 minutes of the game on the backfoot dealing with threats from Pius Wangi and Bashir Mutanda.

“Am extremely disappointed with the players’ first half performance, it was different from what we set out to play! They played long balls yet we have short forwards. Short forwards can't execute long balls and that’s how we ended up losing to a very average team with the quality of the players we have, they should be disappointed with themselves, said Bamweyana.
For Abbey Bogere, the three points was all they wanted despite a new environment, playing under the floodlights.
“This has been a very good game, we came for the three points and we got them, I had told my boys to do all they can and not concentrate on the floodlights and that’s what they did to get them the three points, “said Bogere.
Villa is now 13th on the table log while Kirinya Jinja SS remained 8th with 33 points.
This was the first match to be played under floodlights in the startimes Uganda Premier League.
