It is a 99 kilometers road stretch but only works on 36.4kilometres has been complete. And it has emerged that the remaining 63% works on the Nakalama-Tirinyi-Mbale road may not be complete soon on account of theft and vandalism of construction material. We spoke to Dott Services the company contracted to carry out the road construction.
According to contractors metallic culverts and road sign posts have largely been the target of vandals and robbers.
Andrew Tugume, the measurement engineer says, out of the 125 culverts needed, 105 culverts have been inserted, which sizes up to 80% of work completed . He says emphasis is now on the construction of the new bridge at River Mpologoma.
Dott Services was reinstated as engineer after a directive by President Yoweri Museveni picking off from Mp’s from Eastern Uganda who had protested delay in construction.
The resumption of the work flagged off in April 2018. 36 kilometers out of the 99 kilometers from Nakalama – Mbale road is complete. The engineers estimate the remaining 73% will be accomplished next year
