Christians from across Luweero joined others nationwide in commemorating the Way of the Cross, a significant Christian tradition that reflects on the suffering of Jesus Christ on His journey to crucifixion.
The procession brought together leaders from different Christian denominations, highlighting a strong message of ecumenism and unity. The Bishop of Kasana–Luweero Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa, represented the Catholic Church, while Wilson Kisekka, Bishop of Luweero Diocese, led Christians from the Anglican faith. The Orthodox community was represented by Rev. Fr. Antonio Ssempijja.
The faithful began the solemn journey at Our Lady of Fatima Queen of Peace, Kasana, and processed through Luweero Town before concluding at St. Mark Cathedral, Luweero.
Addressing the faithful after the procession, Bishop Mukasa applauded the large turnout and the spirit of togetherness demonstrated throughout the event.
“Through this procession, we have preached the gospel of love and unity. I thank you for turning up in large numbers, and I urge you to maintain this spirit until Christ comes,” he said.
He also encouraged Christians to preserve the unity displayed during the procession.
“Let us continue walking together in love and unity so that we can build a stronger Church and a better community,” he added.
In his remarks, Rev. Fr. Ssempijja encouraged believers to remain steadfast in faith, reminding them of the strength found in Christ.
“Through Christ, we receive the strength to overcome all the challenges we face in life. Let us remain firm in faith and hopeful in all circumstances,” he said.
In his closing remarks, Bishop Kisekka emphasized the deeper meaning of the Cross, describing it as a symbol of love, sacrifice, and perseverance.
“The Cross represents love, suffering, and sacrifice. Every Christian is called to leave everything behind and follow Christ, who gave His life for our salvation,” he noted.
