Singer Racheal Magoola wins NRM primaries for Bugweri Woman MP

Veteran Afrigo Band singer, Rachael Magoola, has won the NRM primaries for Bugweri Woman Member of Parliament, the Nile Post has learnt.

The Obangaina singer who garnered 13172 votes beat three other candidates including Amina Mutesi(6691),Rose Birabwa(5667) and Monika Musibika to the woman MP seat in the ruling party primaries in polls  held on Wednesday in the newly created Bugweri district .

Born in 1966, the legendary singer, songwriter and dancer came to limelight after his Obangaina hit.

The professional teacher who taught at Namasagali College until 1993 when she did a degree course in education, majoring in Music at Kyambogo University has in the past tried a shot at politics.

In 2015, she contested for the seat of Iganga woman Member of Parliament but lost.

 In the same NRM primaries on Wednesday for LC5 chairman for Bugweri district, Fraji Muziransa won the party ticket after beating four other candidates.

The ruling NRM party held primaries for both woman Member of Parliament and other local governments in five other newly created districts including Kassanda, Kapelebyong,Kwania, Kikuube and Nabilatuk.

Government recently established new administrative units creating 2828 leadership positions to be filled in 53 districts in the country.

The newly created areas include seven municipalities, 194 sub counties, 64 town and 23 municipal divisions.
