Orthodox Church calls for peace,unity ahead of general elections

The Orthodox church has called for peace and unity as the country is preparing for 2026 general elections .

The call has come at a time when the Orthodox community is in preparation to welcome Pope Patriach Theodore II who is expected to land in Uganda on February 18 .

The Pope is expected to attend three official events starting from Northern Uganda where he is going to attend several events and he will conclude his visit in Kampala.

The Orthodox church added that pope’s visit will change the beliefs of orthodox community and promotes peace across the country as we prepare for general elections.

Currently Pope Patriarch is residing in Alexandria city -Egypt and the organizing committee as urged all Ugandans to join the orthodox church as they well come their holly visitor

The chairperson of the organizing committee also Lwemiyaga MP Theodre Ssekikubo said that Pope’s visit is very crucial to the country since Uganda was selected among the three countries in East Africa.

"We have engaged with government to have proper arrangements for the pope‘s visit as we maintain the norms of orthodox church and other religions. Currently our courtly needs to be hoarded from the ongoing political tension which has also led to violation of human rights for some citizens with different political affiliations. We need unity if we are to have fair and peaceful elections come 2026 because and the pope is visit will contribute a lot to that call because we believe in him," he said.

"We urge the public to join the orthodox church as they welcome the Pope to Uganda who is on three days official visit."
