Government to create saccos for graduates in each district

The Ugandan government will create Savings and Credit Cooperatives Organisations (SACCOs) for graduates to help them cultivate a savings habit and investment culture and allow them to borrow loans as per their needs.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni made the announcement during a live interaction with the journalists in Lango sub-region at Baralegi state Lodge.

The session was part of President Museveni’s 4-day wealth creation and Parish Development Model (PDM) performance assessment tour in the Lango sub-region.

According to the president, the government will establish graduates’ SACCOs in 147 districts and inject in them money which graduates will borrow.

During the same session, the President talked about the youths who are involved in illegal fishing and showed an alternative way of economically empowering them through the development of fish farming along the edges of the swamps than growing rice in the center of the swamps.

He revealed that fish has a big demand globally and it’s the reason why he included fishing in the seven activities of intensive agriculture in the four acre- model.

He therefore urged the journalists to use their platforms to save the lakes from being exploited.

The president asserted that the lakes belong to all people and therefore the government which represents them should be the one to allow somebody to go to the lake.

Concerning mining, President Museveni recounted that the mines don’t belong to individuals, they belong to all Ugandans and therefore it’s the government to decide who to go to the mines.

He communicated that when a mineral is discovered in an area, the government will get somebody to look for the mineral, dig it out and process it in a good way.

During the same session, the journalists informed the President that they heeded to his advice of opening a Lango Media Network Africa SACCO and he injected in it Shs.100m, and also gave them a minibus.

The journalists appreciated the President for carrying out a wealth creation and PDM performance assessment tour in Lango sub-region and skilling Ugandans.
