Kikuube LC5 vice chairman arrested over shs1.5m kickback

Police have arrested  Vincent Alpha Opio , the Kikuube district vice chairman for allegedly asking a shs 1.5 million kickback before offering a job to an applicant.

It is said Derrick Musabiire had been seeking employment with the district when the Opio allegedly demanded demanded the money in exchange for favorable consideration.

However, the applicant reported the incident to the authorities, leading to the vice chairman's arrest.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest.

"The Kikuube vice chairman is under our custody for allegedly soliciting a bribe for a job of shs 1.5million. Investigations are on and probably the file will be sent to the state attorney for perusal and advice on the way forward," Hakiza said.

Attempts by the district chairman Peter Banuta to secure bond for Opio was futile.

The development comes a few hours after Zulia Nyakahara, the  female Councilor for Kikuube Town Council also Secretary for finance and Ruth Kobusinge Buhimba Sub County Councilor were released on   police bond in related case of extortion of money from a job applicant.
