Police of Wobulenzi in Luwero district have in custody four men who were arrested for attacking church members during Sunday church service at Katikamu church of Uganda.
The suspects whose motive is not yet established allegedly trespassed and maliciously damaged property of the church in broad day light.
According to police, preliminary observations indicate that around mid day, the church service had started at Katikamu church of Uganda when a group of people came and attacked them.
In a statement by Sam Twineamazima, the Savanah police regional spokesperson, police upon receiving information from the management of the church responded and arrested four suspected attackers.
The majority of the attackers, however, were from Kampala, implying that they were hired goons on a special mission sent by unknown individuals.
Police has identified the four as Joel Droma, a watchman and resident of Kalerwe market village in Kawempe, Ronnie Bakaki who is a casual worker from Mambule zone in Kawempe, Mugambe Moses from Sekanusu village Wobulenzi and Owen Twesigye also from Kalerwe in Kawempe division in Kampala District.
However, authorities have been tasked to investigate such attacks on Anglican churches since similar incidents have been happening in other dioceses across the country.
For instance, christians belonging to the Church of Uganda Kumi Diocese and those affiliated with the bishops of the Reformed Anglican Church of Upper Nile Diocese have continued to attack each other in the past few months.
It is said that the dispute emerged after the House of Bishops refused to consecrate Rev. Okunya as bishop of Kumi Diocese after he was elected in 2019.
The disguantled Rev. Okunya and his followers joined the Reformed Anglican Church where he was consecrated as bishop last year.
