Kadaga to Crack the Whip on Absentee MPs

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has promised to crack the whip on absentee Members of Parliament in the third session of the august house.

Kadaga made the comments while opening parliament before President Yoweri Museveni delivered the 2018 State of the Nation address.

Kadaga noted that continued absenteeism will force her to make changes in appointment of chairpersons of committees. She rapped the committees for failing to perform despite receiving adequate facilitation from the house.

She said that the speakers’ office will work with the whips to ensure that committee chairpersons perform.

Kadaga said that parliament had only been able to pass 11 bills in the second session because of the prolonged consideration of the Constitutional Amendment Bill. Parliament passed 17 bills in the first session.
