The National Unity Platform (NUP) has instituted investigations into some party officials who have been accused of extorting money from the aspirants in order to give them the party flag among other issues.

This follows several allegations from some of the candidates who lost during the vetting process accusing some NUP officials of being corrupt and biased.

Among accused is Fred Nyanzi, the coordinator of informal sector in the party.

Some of the party members who were very bitter also accused Nyanzi and other officials of giving the party flag to only those close to them.

The party spokesperson,Joel Ssenyonyi, called upon all the members who allege that they were asked for money to produce evidence to ease the process of investigations.

He said investigations have already been instituted to find out those officials who have been extorting money from the candidates.

"Those with evidence should bring because such information will help us to deal with the question of corruption. We want to get to the bottom of these things, there might be something,"he said.

The party also issued a list of flag bearers for mayor and district chairperson seats.

Ssenyonyi called upon members who may not be satisfied with the outcome of the vetting process to raise their concerns as early as possible.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Nyanzi distanced himself from the allegations adding that some of the aspirants who have not been given the party flag had hidden intentions of tarnishing the name of the party.

"What I can say is that nobody has extorted money from any aspirant in terms of selling the party flag or anything thing of that nature. The allegations are not true,"said Nyanzi.

He said some of the members have already been bribed by the opponents to utter ill statements against the party in order to frustrate it's activities.

"Some words are meant to derail our struggle but we shall continue until we liberate this country. We advise our supporters to stop talking about things without evidence,"he noted.
