Police have carried out what was termed as a disruptive operation targeting criminal gangs operation in the Kira Municipality area of Kampala Metropolitan Region.
According to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Racheal Kwala, the operation conducted by the Kira Division Police together with sister security agencies was done in Buwate–Najjera, Kira Municipality on Thursday night.
“During the operation, ten suspects were arrested red-handed while smoking suspected narcotic substances in a wooden structure. Exhibits of rolled sticks and powdered leaves suspected to be narcotics were recovered,” Kawala said.
She said preliminary findings indicate that the gangs smoke narcotics before waylaying pedestrians and stoning moving vehicles.
“The suspects are currently in police custody pending court, with a case of possession of narcotic substances, to wit opium, registered.”
She noted, “Police operations will continue during and after the election period to ensure public safety and security.”
