Texol Energies has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), officially bringing the institution on board as a key partner in the Texol Gardening Project—an initiative focused on promoting sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate action through educational institutions.
The signing ceremony was graced by IUIU Rector Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, the Rector of the IUIU Female Campus, the Dean of Agricultural Sciences, and other distinguished university officials. Prof. Gyagenda emphasized the need for practical application of Africa’s vast agricultural potential, stating, “Africa is gifted, but our failure to apply ourselves has let us down. Initiatives like this, when implemented, can ignite minds and awaken our true potential.”
The Texol Gardening Project is currently active in several institutions and empowers students with hands-on skills in modular gardening, vertical farming, and avocado seedling propagation. The project promotes climate-resilient food systems while offering economic and nutritional value to participating schools and communities.
Representing Texol Energies were Ms. Dujanah Hood Namabakire (Project Patron), Ms. Fatuma Namuddu (Legal Officer), and Mr. Tonny Kosha (Marketing & PR Executive). Mr. Kosha highlighted the significance of partnering with a highly respected institution like IUIU and noted Texol’s commitment to deepening collaboration across various sectors through its sister companies—such as Kuku Chic, Musubi Farms, and STA Bakery. He also emphasized the economic promise of avocado farming: “The FAO projects avocados will be the second most traded tropical fruit by 2030, after bananas. This partnership helps position Uganda at the forefront.”
This collaboration further strengthens Texol’s mission of fostering practical, climate-smart agriculture across Uganda’s academic institutions.
