“Following the successful first edition last year, which attracted over 4,000 revellers, we are now onboarding vendors who will enhance the festival experience by providing essential and related goods and services,” said Elizabeth Mutamuliza, marketing manager for Beer at Uganda Breweries.

“We expect to onboard approximately 30 businesses, the majority being small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). With the festival extended to a three-day event, this is an excellent income-generating opportunity, as we plan to grow attendance to over 20,000 people.”

The event made history last year as Uganda’s first inclusive festival, catering specifically to the needs of persons with disabilities.

This initiative aligns with Uganda Breweries' commitment to inclusion and diversity, with a long-term goal to increase spending on diverse-owned and disadvantaged businesses each year until 2030.

According to Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) data, Uganda’s services sector, including entertainment, contributes Shs47.1 trillion to the economy.

This is driven in part by opportunities like Bell ObaFest, which support various players within the entertainment value chain.

Uganda’s creative industry, which favours youth and women, spans sectors such as arts, fashion, crafts, advertising, design, and entertainment. It has become a powerful force in job creation and human development.

Mutamuliza also highlighted Uganda Breweries' commitment to responsible business through its ongoing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) action plan.

This 10-year plan aims to create a more inclusive and sustainable environment, with 50% of beneficiaries from community programs being women.

“We are fuelled by the ambition to become Africa’s most sustainable festival by 2030,” she added.

In 2023, Uganda Breweries recycled 83% of the waste generated at Bell ObaFest through a partnership with Asante Waste Management Ltd.

The company aims to improve this record in the upcoming edition, seeking innovative waste management and recycling solutions from participants.

Bell ObaFest 2024 promises to deliver a greener, more responsible festival experience while fostering economic opportunities for local businesses.
