A delegation of 102 farmers from Buganda, sponsored by the Kabaka Foundation, has completed an intensive five-day training program in Kenya focused on modern agriculture, livestock management, and agribusiness skills.
The program emphasized advanced livestock management, including dairy and goat farming, in structured and efficiently managed farm environments.
Farmers toured model facilities such as Elite Livestock Dynaries Farm Ltd in Ruiru and Kefa Gardens Farm in Muranga County, learning innovative techniques to improve productivity and animal welfare.
At Elite Livestock Dynaries, the group observed systematic cattle management, automated feeding and watering systems, and well-ventilated goat pens designed for hygiene and space optimization.
At Kefa Gardens, farmers learned how disciplined hygiene and animal comfort practices can yield up to 34 liters of milk per cow daily.
The training also included poultry management at Paly Chicks in Malengeri, where participants explored nutrient-rich feed formulations and efficient feeding methods for layer hens.
Across all sites, technology integration, including automated systems for feed and water, was highlighted as essential for maximizing efficiency and animal welfare.
Speaking after the visit, Kayemba Pius, a dairy farmer from Lwengo District, said he had gained invaluable knowledge in modern cattle management practices to implement in Uganda.
Fellow farmer Ssewulira Stanley Lwere emphasized the importance of sharing these insights with youth to inspire interest in agriculture and animal husbandry.
The initiative underscores the Kabaka Foundation’s commitment to equipping Buganda’s citizens with practical, sustainable skills to improve food security, enhance livelihoods, and promote economic self-reliance across the Kingdom.
