The National Unity Platform (NUP) Vice President for Buganda Region, Mohammad Muwanga Kivumbi, has urged party supporters to stay resilient amid the continued arrests of opposition members following the presidential campaign trail.

Speaking at Kamwokya Market during the launch of NUP’s campaigns for Kampala Central parliamentary and local government flag bearers, Kivumbi said the arrests were intended to intimidate the opposition but should instead strengthen their resolve.

“We should not be shaken by the arrests of our colleagues,” Kivumbi said. “They cannot arrest all of us. Let us stay firm and focused on the mission of change.”

The launch followed a door-to-door campaign led by David Lewis Rubongoya, NUP’s flag bearer for Kampala Central Member of Parliament, who appealed to residents to entrust him with their votes.

“I have lived among you and I understand your challenges,” Rubongoya said. “Together, we can build a better Kampala that works for everyone.”

Ronald Balimwezo, NUP’s Lord Mayoral candidate for Kampala, promised to tackle the city’s chronic problems of flooding and waste mismanagement if elected.

“There will be no more floods, no more deaths caused by mismanaged garbage,” Balimwezo said. “We shall make Kampala a clean and livable city.”

Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi also rallied support for Rubongoya, praising his dedication and experience as NUP’s Secretary General.

“Rubongoya has served diligently and proved his commitment to the people,” Ssenyonyi said. “He has the experience and integrity to represent Kampala Central effectively.”

After the Kamwokya event, NUP leaders announced that their next campaign stop will be Nakawa East, where they will officially launch campaigns for parliamentary and local government flag bearers in that constituency.
