‘Repropulse’ Dashboard Launched to Track and Advance Reproductive Justice Across Africa

The new online dashboard will allow policymakers, activists, and legal professionals to upload, analyze, and share reproductive health cases in real time.

Afya na Haki, a rights-based health advocacy organisation known for championing sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and social justice, has unveiled Repropulse, an online dashboard designed to track, analyse, and share reproductive justice cases across Africa in real time.

The launch took place during the 3rd Annual Reproductive Justice Litigation Baraza 2025 in Wakiso, following six months of research, development, and testing.

The platform aims to empower policymakers, lawyers, activists, and the public with a centralised space to upload, monitor, and study reproductive health-related cases using artificial intelligence to reveal trends, legal strategies, and policy impacts across the continent.

“The big purpose is to track and analyse reproductive justice cases on the African continent,” explained Michael Kuteesa, an IT officer at Afya na Haki.

“We use what we call the epicentre approach, targeting different regions of Africa through our network of partners in Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Madagascar, South Africa, and beyond.”

Through Repropulse, users can upload legal cases alongside related laws, policies, academic articles, and court judgments.

Each submission undergoes moderation to ensure data quality and accuracy, enabling contributions from grassroots activists and legal professionals alike.

“For example, if you’re the first to document a case about emergency post-abortion care where legal strategies were lacking due to underfunding, your contribution could serve as a foundation for future advocates,” said Kuteesa.

“The next person can access it, repurpose it, and strategise based on what you’ve shared.”

Across Africa, reproductive health challenges remain a major public health crisis.

Millions of women face unsafe abortions, limited access to contraceptives, and restrictive laws that jeopardise their health.

The World Health Organisation estimates that 29,000 women die each year from unsafe abortion-related complications.

In Uganda alone, 12 mothers die daily from childbirth-related causes.

Afya na Haki believes Repropulse will become a powerful tool for change—helping advocates and policymakers share strategies, identify policy gaps, and push for stronger legal protections.

“With these visualisations, you can make informed decisions and focus efforts where they matter most,” Kuteesa said.

“If a particular policy is working well in Nigeria, it can be adapted in Uganda or Madagascar.”

One of the platform’s ambitions is to ensure cases remain relevant and influential long after they are resolved.

“We want to bring dead cases to life,” Kuteesa emphasised. “A case from 2025 should still be shaping policies and advocacy in 2030 because it remains accessible, repurposable, and influential.”

While other legal case repositories exist, Repropulse stands out for its exclusive focus on reproductive justice, making it easier for users to find the most relevant cases for SRHR advocacy.

Currently available online, Afya na Haki is also developing a mobile app to improve access for communities in remote or resource-limited areas.

“As we grow, we want to make sure anyone with internet access, even in the most marginalised regions, can benefit from Repropulse,” Kuteesa noted.

Afya na Haki’s vision is to create not just a database, but a living, evolving knowledge hub that transcends borders, strengthens reproductive justice movements, and empowers Africa’s most vulnerable communities.
