10,000 Mpox Vaccine Doses to Arrive in Uganda
Mpox, formerly called monkeypox, is a viral infection and can be deadly

The vaccines are expected in Uganda next week and will be used to boost efforts to combat the spread of the disease

The Ministry of Health has confirmed the imminent arrival of 10,000 doses of the Mpox vaccine, a donation from the US government through the Africa CDC.

The vaccines are expected in Uganda next week, as the country grapples with a noticeable increase in Mpox cases.

Health minister Jane Ruth Aceng revealed during a press briefing that mass vaccination campaigns will commence next month, focusing on regions experiencing active transmission.

She emphasized the importance of vaccination in curbing the spread of the disease.

Dr Mary Boyd, speaking at the Uganda Media Centre, assured the public of the vaccine's safety, citing endorsements from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

She also highlighted additional US support, including 10,000 testing kits to enhance Mpox detection and treatment capacity in the country.

"This partnership underscores the global effort to combat Mpox and strengthen Uganda's healthcare system," Dr Boyd stated.

The Ministry of Health urges the public to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures as preparations for the vaccination rollout continue.
