The Government has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, a public holiday in observance of Eid-Al-Adhuha, one of the most significant Islamic religious festivals.
The announcement was made by Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwiire, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Public Service, through an official communication addressed to the Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and National Guidance.
The message was requested to be relayed across the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) network to ensure nationwide awareness.
“The Honorable Minister of Public Service informs the general public that tomorrow Friday 6th June 2025 is Eid-Al-Adhuha ('Festival of Sacrifice') and will be observed as a Public Holiday throughout Uganda,” the statement reads.
Eid-Al-Adhuha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the Quranic account of Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.
It is celebrated globally by Muslims with prayers, charitable acts, and ceremonial animal sacrifice.
The public is encouraged to respect the holiday and extend goodwill to Muslim communities observing the day.
