Tusker Lite Neon Raves returns this weekend with a new twist, shifting its focus from dance competitions to DJ battles as it heads to the Tooro region for a three-day entertainment experience.

The event will bring together some of Uganda’s leading DJs for live competitions testing their mixing skills, creativity, crowd engagement and musical storytelling, as the brand expands the Neon Raves platform to celebrate another pillar of the country’s entertainment scene.

Tusker Lite Brand Manager Sandra Againe said the latest edition reflects the brand’s commitment to supporting different forms of youth expression through its Own Your Lite campaign.

“Own Your Lite is about giving people the confidence to express themselves in ways that are authentic to them. Earlier this year, Neon Raves celebrated dance and the incredible talent that exists across Uganda. This weekend, we turn our attention to DJs, the people who create the soundtrack to our experiences and keep the energy alive wherever people come together. It’s another opportunity to celebrate creativity and continue owning the spaces where culture is created,” Againe said.

The competition comes at a time when Uganda’s DJ industry has grown into one of the country’s most vibrant entertainment spaces, with audiences increasingly paying attention to technical ability, seamless transitions, scratching skills and the ability to read and control a crowd.

Competition among DJs has also intensified in recent years, with performers engaging in friendly rivalries over music selection, mixing techniques and stage presence.

The conversation around Uganda’s DJ culture gained fresh momentum earlier this year following an episode of The Bag featuring DJ Spinny, which sparked widespread debate on social media about the growth and standards of the industry.

Tusker Lite will now bring those conversations to the stage through a series of live contests featuring some of the country’s established selectors.

DJ Mercy Pro will battle Trizzy Vybz at Le Rêve Bar, while Selecta Jeff will take on Edu Mystique in separate contests at Beer Nyama, Tooro Botanical Gardens, and later at Diplomat’s Lounge.

Unlike conventional club performances, the battles will require DJs to respond to each other’s music selections in real time, demonstrate smooth transitions and maintain audience energy throughout their performances.

The activation is part of Tusker Lite’s broader Own Your Lite campaign, which continues to invest in youth culture by expanding the Neon Raves platform beyond dance to recognise DJs and MCs who play a central role in shaping Uganda’s nightlife and entertainment industry.

By placing DJs at the centre of the experience, the brand seeks to recognise a craft that often happens behind the turntables but remains essential to creating memorable entertainment experiences.

As Neon Raves heads to Tooro this weekend, the spotlight will shift from the dance floor to the DJ booth, where creativity, technical ability and musical instinct will determine who emerges victorious behind the decks.
