From dreaded to celebrated: Useless Mondays marks first anniversary

By | June 10, 2026

‎What is usually the most dreaded day of the week has become one of Kampala’s most anticipated nights out, thanks to a weekly nightlife concept that has steadily built a loyal following over the past year.

‎On Monday night, Mezo Noir in Kololo, together with premium tequila brand Don Julio, marked the first anniversary of Useless Mondays, a theme night that has grown into a regular fixture on the city’s social calendar.

‎Hosted by DJ Dash, who is also a Don Julio influencer, the event has earned popularity for blending music, nightlife culture and premium consumer experiences, transforming Monday evenings into a vibrant social occasion.

‎The anniversary celebration kicked off with a Don Julio tequila masterclass conducted by members of the brand’s advocacy team. Guests were introduced to the Don Julio Core Range and guided through cocktail-making demonstrations, learning how to prepare classic serves such as margaritas and palomas, alongside personalised creations. The cocktails were presented in both traditional glassware and specially engraved Don Julio ceramic cups.

‎As the night progressed, the spotlight shifted to the venue’s signature bottle-service experience. Waitresses paraded through the packed venue carrying Don Julio bottles amid flashing lights, ceremonial fanfare and the trademark gong that announced the arrival of Don Julio 1942 bottles.

‎According to organisers, the partnership reflects Don Julio’s growing footprint within Kampala’s premium nightlife scene.

‎Ms Judie Nandekya, Senior Brand Manager for Tequila and Rum at UBL East Africa, said the collaboration had provided another opportunity to create memorable consumer experiences.

‎"Our partnership with Useless Mondays is a natural fit, because it’s hosted by our very own DJ Dash. But through this partnership, we have had another chance to curate another memorable experience at Mezo, and this time on a Monday night. I am confident that everyone here has had such a great time. Seeing people shake off the Monday tension with such energy has given us even more reason to keep delivering nights like these," she said.

‎Music remained at the heart of the celebration, with performances from DJs Zonke Africa, Sssese, Edwizzy Selekta, Kash Pro, City Girl, Kwesta 43 and Scarz, who kept revellers entertained with a mix of Afro-electronic sounds, Hip Hop, Amapiano, Afrohouse and Dancehall.

‎DJ Dash, serving as both host and headline act, maintained the energy throughout the evening, while MC Vianna Indi guided guests through the night’s programme.

‎One year after its launch, Useless Mondays has achieved what few nightlife concepts manage, turning the start of the work week into an occasion many Kampala partygoers now look forward to.
