The Ugandan Police Force is requesting a significant budget increase to address several key areas:
- Election Preparedness: They requested Shs362 billion for the 2026 general elections, including recruitment, training, vehicles, and equipment. This aims to prevent election-related violence.
- Infrastructure Improvement: They highlighted poor living conditions for officers and requested funds for renovations, particularly for outdated colonial-era facilities. Only Shs601 million is allocated for housing improvements in the current budget, which they say is insufficient.
- Oil Security: Shs210 billion is requested for security measures surrounding the East African Crude Oil Pipeline project in preparation for Uganda's oil production in 2025.
- Vehicle Registration: Shs7.714 billion is needed for new electronic number plates for their entire fleet (10,245 vehicles) to combat crime within the transport sector.
