Bukwo: Students shun Ugandan schools for Kenya's over standards

Education

Secondary school students in Bukwo district have turned to Kenya for better education due to inadequate and poor facilities on the Ugandan side.

The district has 10 secondary schools, 6 of which are government aided and 4 are community founded.

Bukwo district is one of the districts that lag behind in education a factor that can be attributed to inadequate facilities and understaffing.

This has forced students from areas neighbouring the  Uganda-Kenya border to seek education from Kenya.

Early this year there were reports that government would provide funds to improve on the facilities at Eastern College Chebinyinyi, the biggest school in Bukwo.

The school has been operating in temporary structures raised with support from the community.

The school is one of the five seed schools that will be rehabilitated with funding from the World Bank.

Area leaders noted that the school is a big milestone for the people of Mutshet and neighbouring sub counties, adding that it will improve academic performance.

The contract has be implemented by Bam construction company. The MD of the company said that works will commence immediately.
