The political scene at Kabale University is intensifying ahead of the 2026/2027 guild president elections, with four candidates contesting the top leadership position.
This year’s race, featuring only male contenders, is expected to be highly competitive, attracting students from both science and humanities disciplines.
The candidates are:
- Anxious Niwamanya, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering student
- Joshua Munezero, a second-year, second-semester Civil Engineering student
- Drake Kyarikunda Justus, a second-year, second-semester Quantitative Economics student
- Osbert Akandwanaho, a second-year, second-semester Bachelor of Arts in Education student, specializing in Literature and Divinity
Jethero Ngambagye confirmed that all four candidates have officially expressed interest in the position and noted that campaigns are proceeding smoothly.
“So far, the campaigns are going well, and we have not encountered any challenges. We are looking forward to a peaceful election on March 21, 2026, when students will cast their votes,” Ngambagye said.
He further explained that the commission is fully prepared with all necessary election materials to ensure a fair process and emphasized its supervisory role.
However, he clarified that the commission does not provide financial support for candidates’ campaign activities.
Kabale University, a government institution with over one thousand students, is currently led by Guild President Edwin Mukamaweka. Students are expected to elect new leadership on March 21, 2026.
