The Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations commenced today in Kamuli District, with headteachers granting concessions to candidates who have not fully paid school fees.
Parents were encouraged to pay in small installments to ensure that results are not withheld.
Despite recent teacher strikes, there were no manpower gaps at exam centers, as Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) officers were fully present and well-prepared
Oliver Nambi, Kamuli District UNEB Supervisor, said headteachers agreed not to punish defaulting candidates but to handle them professionally through UNEB’s mechanisms for blocked results.
“The exams have kicked off well, organized, and on time. Though a few candidates have reportedly not turned up, the UNEB officers are doing their work,” Nambi stated.
He added that the industrial action has not affected the smooth running of the examinations.
Elizabeth Chekemoi, a candidate at Central College Kamuli, described the first paper as “well set according to the syllabus,” noting that the colored photos in the exam materials were clear and easy to interpret.
