The State Minister for Primary Education, Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu, has urged parents to give children more time to play, especially during the school holidays.

Schools break off for First Term holidays starting Friday and Minister Moriku says play is important in building resilience in learners, healing children from trauma, and boosting their confidence.

“Play is essential for children’s development, and we must prioritize it in our education system,” she said.

The minister, who was addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala on Wednesday, also urged parents to prioritise their daughters' education to prevent early marriage.

“We also urge parents to focus on their daughters’ education to prevent early marriage and ensure they reach their full potential,” Moriku added.

The minister warned against private or holiday tutoring, emphasising that schools must adhere to established rules and regulations.

She warned school heads that failure to comply will result in the withdrawal of licence.

“Term One that is set to close on May 3," she said.
