The Madhvani Foundation has announced scholarships for its 2024/25 program worth shs750 million to Ugandan students at university.

Announcing the offer on Wednesday, Madhvani Foundation board chairperson and former Finance Minister, Gerald Ssendawula said the scholarship will again cover a wide range of fields including agriculture, biology, chemistry, commerce, engineering, food science and technology, information technology, hotel management, pharmacy, nursing, architecture, veterinary medicine, actuarial science, environmental studies and human medicine.

“This scholarship program is not only about providing financial assistance but about investing in the future leaders, innovators and change makers of our world. The initiators of this program believed in the power of education to transform lives and it is a testament to their unwavering commitment to equality and inclusivity in education,” Ssendawula said.

He explained that in a bid to be a beacon of hope for undergraduate and postgraduate students who possess academic prowess but face financial constraints in pursuing their dreams, the Madhvani Foundation scholarship program has since its inception in 2003 seen over 2500 Uganda students benefit, with billions of shilling sunk into the same.

“I must highlight  the generosity and patriotism displayed by the Madhvani group that despite urges to reinvest these huge sums of money into their various businesses, they chose to offer scholarships to Ugandan students to contribute to the development of Uganda by nurturing talented individuals who will become future leaders and professionals in their respective fields.”

Criteria

Ssendawula said last year, 177 Ugandan students were beneficiary of the Madhvani Foundation scholarship program, noting that they expect a similar number to benefit this year.

He explained that the offer is valid for bachelors students who have completed the first year at university whereas those for master’s program must have been admitted or registered by the respective universities.

The chairman of the board of directors for Madhvani Foundation said the offer is valid for students admitted to chartered universities in Uganda.

Former state minister for investment and privatization, Gabriel Opio will be the chairperson of this  year’s selection committee for the scholarships.
