Police in Kisoro District have launched investigations into the death of an unidentified man whose body was found floating in Lake Mutanda on Friday.
The body was discovered at around midday by a sailor who was crossing the lake in Kanyamegeri Village, Chihe Parish, Nyakinama Sub-county. The sailor alerted nearby residents, who later informed police.
Police officers arrived at the scene at about 3:00 p.m. and retrieved the body before transferring it to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Authorities said inquiries have been opened to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and identify the deceased.
Nyakinama Sub-county LCIII Chairperson Charles Kamuhanda Bigira said the incident has raised concern among residents, noting that Lake Mutanda has previously been linked to cases where bodies were allegedly dumped by suspected criminals.
"The deceased was wearing black trousers and had no shirt. He had visible injuries on the face, head, and back," Bigira said.
Police have not yet established the cause of death, pending the outcome of investigations and the postmortem examination.
