Police have said despite four suspects being remanded to Luzira Prison in connection with the mob killing of Uganda Rugby Cranes player Sydney Gongodyo, more will be arrested.

Spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said on Monday that investigations into the murder have not stopped, noting that more suspects are likely to be arrested and taken to court.

“It is a process. Many more will be arrested. There are motorcycles we are pursuing. There were those putting on masks,” Rusoke told journalists on Monday.

“When there are cases of such a magnitude, suspects  get fillers and go into hiding but e are doing our level best to have all of them arrested.”

The police spokesperson applauded members of the public for “doing a great job” in exposing the suspects involved in the mob killing, noting that the information has helped in their apprehension.

“The investigations are still ongoing. Whoever we get will be taken to courts of law.”

The development comes three days after four suspects were remanded to prison over the murder of the Uganda Rugby Cranes star.

Obed Mugwisa, 39, a boda boda rider ; Elly Mondoni, 33, a delivery agent with Medicinal Pharmacy; Joseph Owino, 30, a private security guard; and Henry Kabugo, 21, a boda boda rider  appeared before City Hall senior grade one magistrate Edgar Karakire on Friday and charged with murder.

The state alleges that the four and others still at large allegedly murdered Gongodyo on June 5, 2026, at Upper Naguru East Road in Kampala.

They were however not allowed to take plea since they are facing a capital offence only tried by the High Court.

The quartet has since been  remanded to  Luzira Prison until June 23 for mention of their case.
